For 25 years, his non-profit Forever homes for foster kids have worked with government agencies across the country to reunite immigrant and foster children with their families.

Richard is a proud Navy veteran and has been featured on CNN International, Univision, AP News, ABC TV, Costco Connections, Washington Post, and EFE, the world’s largest Spanish language media company. He is a columnist with Foster Focus Magazine and an international speaker. He was honored as a California Hero. He has also translated for the United Nations.

Facts / Strategy learnings:

The goal for the rest fo the year 2019 is to reunite 50 foster kids with their families and to find relatives who could take the child
Foster care in the first intention was not supposed to be long-term care but just to take these kids quickly out of a physically or sexually abusive environment
There are more kids than could be handled and that´s why the search goes for relatives
The kids mostly are not guilty to be in foster care but do have problems because their environment changed so often or there are real difficulties in their homes
Looking at the example of Veronica, 15 years, who got into foster care when her father was sent into prison show what could happen to those kids when they are dropped out of foster care and get kicked on the street as the support ends when they´re 18 years old
25.000 kids do end like that on the street each year- that´s incredible!
They often get picked up by the sex traffickers as they know where these kids will be dropped out, ending in prostitution or homeless
The possibility to get out of foster care by adoption after the age of 15 is only 1 %
Millennials are the growing workforce with social interests, we should integrate them
We all can do something, either donate from $ 5 to whatever you can afford or you could support the charity with providing your goods or in-kind offer your services
if you´re located in the San Diego Area, please arrange a Christmas party for them
You could give them an opportunity as a workforce
They need to get stability in their lives
Some states now changed the law so they can stay till 21 and complete high school or will even be able to go to college tuition-free
